Among the many child stars, one of the prominent names is Josh Hutcherson and you probably know him as Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games. With the birth name, Joshua Ryan Hutcherson is an American producer and actor who was fascinated by acting since the age of 4 and commenced it in the early 2000s. He has not only acted in major films and TV series but has also produced some of the noteworthy movies.

Early Life

Josh Hutcherson was born on 12th October 1992 in Union, Kentucky to a former Delta Airlines employee Michelle and an analyst for the United States Environmental Protection Agency Chris Hutcherson. Hutcherson is the eldest son and has a younger brother named Connor. He first worked in a Kroger television commercial and a Vacation Bible School training film. According to his father, Hutcherson possessed a personality that captivated people and he was compelled to perform for people. Hutcherson and his mother met acting coach Bob Luke in January 2000 who advised them to relocate to Los Angeles for TV Pilots auditioning. Thus, they moved and lived in Los Angeles’ Oakwood apartments for three years and Hutcherson spent most of his childhood on film sets. Until he turned 9, Hutcherson enrolled in New Haven Elementary School after which he started homeschooling with his mother. Later, he attended one semester at Ryan High School in Kentucky and played on the high school’s soccer team.

Career

At the age of 10, Josh Hutcherson starred in a major role in pilot episodes of House Blend and Becoming Glen, followed by a minor role in the episode of ER. His debut film role was as Charlie Logan in Miracle Dogs that aired on Animal Planet followed by American Splendour. In 2004, he voiced for The Polar Express and Howl’s Moving Castle. From 2005 to 2009, Hutcherson appeared in numerous movies such as Little Manhattan, Zathura: A Space Adventure, RV, Bridge to Terabithia, and Journey to the Centre of the Earth to name a few. During this time, he received the Young Artist Award in 2005 and a nomination for the same award in 2006. He kept starring in more films in 2010 and 2011.

In 2011, Hutcherson landed his most prominent role as Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games which was released in 2012 and became one of the highest-grossing movies for the year. For this, he received MTV Movie Award for “Best Male Performance” and the NewNowNext award. While working for The Hunger Games, Hutcherson served as an executive producer for Detention and The Forger and also starred in these films. Next, in 2012, he recurred in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island which is the sequel of Journey to the Centre of the Earth. He voiced for a character in the film Epic in 2013 and continued recording for the Hunger Games sequel which became the most triumphant film by bringing $420 million at the North American box office. Hutcherson also received his second MTV Movie Award. In 2014 and 2015, Hutcherson reprised his role for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay parts. He also filmed Escobar: Paradise Lost and served as an executive producer for it. He, then, produced and starred in Future Man, a science fiction comedy series, in 2017 and voiced for a character in Elliot the Littlest Reindeer the following year. In 2019, Hutcherson appeared in Burn and The Long Home which an unreleased indie drama film.

Josh Hutcherson received 4 Young Artist Awards out of the 8 he was nominated in, during the first stage of his acting career. Later, he won 8 awards out of the 10 he was nominated in, along with his co-stars, for The Hunger Games. Some of the notable awards were Teen Choice Awards and People’s Choice Awards.

Personal Life and Net Worth

Josh Hutcherson resides in Los Angles and purchased a $2.5 million house, in 2012, in Laurel Canyon which was built in 1951. The 5 ft 7 inches tall, Hutcherson considers himself to be “straight” but is an advocate of LGBT rights and actively works for the advancement of this community. For this purpose, he started a campaign named ‘Straight But Not Narrow’ that aims at promoting equal rights for the LGBT community. Hutcherson is known to have dated Victoria Justice, Vanessa Hudgens, and Claudia Traisac. With an estimated net worth of $2 million, Hutcherson is currently dating Claudia Traisac and has no children. He is known to have adopted a Pitbull and owns 3 cars which include Jeep CJ-7, M3 by B.M.W, and Wrangler.
