You say Scientist Saanvi, I hear Parveen Kaur!

Parveen Kaur, born on October 17, 1988, is a Canadian actress popularly known for her role as scientist Saanvi in NBC’s Manifest and Christine in Beyond. The 5 ft 3 inches tall, beautiful star was born in Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada to a Sikh family. Her parents belong to Mumbai, India but moved to Canada before her birth. At the age of 18, Kaur moved to Toronto and started her career in acting when she turned 19. Influenced by Bruce Clayton, John Riven, and Lewis Baumander, Kaur quit high school and left her home to focus on her career as an actress. During her initial days in Toronto, she worked at a vintage store on Queen West. Like every other parent, Kaur’s parents too wanted her to become a doctor or an engineer but Parveen Kaur was passionate about pursuing acting as a career. “Growing up, all the things I wanted to be were the things I saw on TV,” said Parveen Kaur in an interview with the Composure Magazine. “I had someone tell me that because I had a fun energy, I should take an acting class, and that was the beginning,” she added. She got her first role in a Tim Horton’s advertisement “Hi” and became famous as “The Girl.” She, then, got a minor role in the TV series “Played” in 2013 followed by “Working the Engels” in 2014. But, Parveen Kaur chooses to label “The Strain” as her debut TV series.

Parveen’s career shot up with her recurring role as Aanya Gupta in The Strain. After tremendous success, she acted in several TV series such as Beyond, Saving Hope, Working Moms, and American Gods. Furthermore, she played part in various films including Chameleon, Through Black Spruce, White Night, and Five Dollars. Despite being a fabulous actress, Parveen Kaur gets depressed easily. This can be seen from the fact that she almost gave up on acting and stayed in bed for two days to tend to her disappointment after not being able to get the lead roles which she auditioned for. After feeling defeated, Parveen got another audition but she didn’t feel energized the same way she felt with the previous ones. Hence, she just sent the tape without feeling positive about it. Unexpectedly, she was called to New York right after two days and she had the best audition in her entire career. She got a role as Dr. Saanvi Bahl for the drama series “Manifest” and starred in 29 episodes between 2018 to 2020. It was in New York that Parveen Kaur attended soccer in a stadium where she was amazed to see 80,000 people together for the first time. She told the Talk Nerdy with Us that it was a memorable experience. Kaur received the 2017 MISAFF Star, her first award, at the 6th annual Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival presented by ACTRA in Mississauga, Ontario. She achieved this feat due to her active work in creating space for positive representation of women of color in television and film in Canada and abroad.

Parveen Kaur believes in break stereotypes and wants to opt for diversified roles instead of playing the same nerdy and medic characters. Kaur enjoys playing the character Saanvi in Manifest but hopes to move on from any role relating to medicine and rather go for characters as she played in a short film Worst Part in which she was a graphic designer with rainbow-colored hair. She also found her character in White Night, as a struggling artist, cool and think that these roles leave a mark in some way.

A fun-loving woman, Kaur enjoys traveling, watching movies, extravagant parties, and loves trying various cuisines. But she keeps herself in shape, Kaur exercises with hot yoga and yoga, and practices mindfulness. She is passionate about beauty, skincare, and fashion. In an interview with The Bare Magazine, Parveen Kaur said that sunscreen is her everyday go-to product. She also mentions that if she hadn’t pursued acting, she would have been either a set designer or a lawyer.

With an estimated net worth of $300,000, the Manifest actress keeps her personal life quite private and doesn’t post about it on her social media accounts. However, it is rumored that she has been dating the Manifest director, Reza Dahya, but none of them have mentioned anything regarding this. Parveen Kaur has two pet dogs and frequently posts about them on her social media accounts. For the women, Parveen advises: “A really good work ethic is really, really important, and the core of everything that you do in life. Have some goals you need to work towards.”
